frequently asked questions

When will we shoot our synagogue portraits?

Formal portraits are photographed the month before the service at your synagogue or temple. This gives us a chance to capture images of your child with the Torah and immediate family members without the pressure and time constraints of the big day.

Can we do a casual session instead?

Absolutely. In addition to the synagogue session, many families choose to shoot pre-mitzvah casual portraits outdoors. Other families prefer to only shoot a casual session. The choice is yours.

Do you take table shots?

Our style is photojournalistic and unobtrusive. We spotlight your family's personality and do not stage photos or direct your guests. While extended family portraits are often shot the hour before the party starts, once your guests arrive we capture kids on the dance floor, grandparents chatting at the tables and all the moments in between.

How much do collections cost?

Packages start at $5400, with the average client investing $7000-$9000 in event photography, formal portraits, high-resolution digital files and an album. Contact us for more information and a complete pricing guide.

What happens after our celebration?

Four weeks after your child's party you will receive a link to your online proofing gallery that can be shared with friends and family. Once you select your favorite images we will schedule your album design consultation to review your album layout and cover options.

Do you travel?

Based in Montgomery County, Maryland, we shoot within 35 miles of Gaithersburg, Md. including in Washington D.C., and Northern Virginia. Rachael is not available for travel outside that area.

jake's bar mitzvah

Just minutes after meeting Rachael it was clear that her talent was matched by her warmth and sincere desire to make this as memorable an occasion as she could. Of all the things you'll spend money on during the event, these pictures are what will remain long after the party's over. Even now, months later, I look at the photos that Rachael took, I see our son beaming with pride and joy, and it instantly transports me back to that fabulous weekend.

alexis and lauren's b'not mitzvah

Rachael really made us feel comfortable. She was professional, but also warm and friendly. We can all be a little bit camera shy, but you would never know that from the amazing pictures that she took. I love all of the photos and especially love the way that they help me to remember the mood and overall joy at both the service and party.

matthew's bar mitzvah

Rachael is the best mitzvah photographer out there. We looked at many photographers before we decided to work with her, and it was the right decision. I cannot tell you how many compliments we got about our photos. When all is said and done, the photos (and our memories) will be what we keep forever, and we are thrilled with what we received from Rachael. She is also flexible, kind, easy to work with, and a fun person. Her background in journalism makes for photos that tell a story and capture the moment in an artistic and authentic way. She is a true professional!

zachary's bar mitzvah

I knew and respected Rachael personally first, and then I fell in love with her online photos as I started thinking about the details. I knew Rachael's was exactly the kind of photography I wanted for my son's Bar Mitzvah, so I booked before I had done anything else! To the extent that she was more expensive than other photographers, the quality and experience was well worth it! As we went through the process, I found that her completely professional-yet-low-key style was perfect for our family. Our kids are still talking about how much they actually enjoyed taking pictures on the Bimah. Now my only fear is having to choose from all of the wonderful pictures!
